Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of engaging independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer features a hero that is actually a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across 150 stages, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a market to acquire skins for your poop character.
Plan your movements precisely, as a wrong move forces starting over. Jump using bubbles to launch your character upward, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch triggers to unlock new areas. Earn currency to purchase more difficult levels in which gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the experience features vibrant environments and an amazing music score. The simple graphics with moving abstract forms could recall gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of similar titles where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly premise, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, such as being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on Steam on November 19.
