Patriots Equal Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five touchdowns in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory increases the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England fought back in the second quarter as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be great."
Fields found John Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
